Alba Serrat Llinàs has visited Bergen for three weeks, granted by the Annenberg Foundation. Her motivation was to enhance her knowledge on approaches to fecundity estimation. Among other factors, she is studying how higher temperature can have critical effects on reproduction.

T. Frede Thingstad becomes Professor Emeritus

In connection with T. Frede Thingstad becoming Professor Emeritus at the University of Bergen from 2017, a seminar was held at the University of Bergen and Hjort Centre for Marine Ecosystem Dynamics on December 2nd to bring Frede’s work into an international perspective and celebrate his professional and collegial achievements.

Paper of the Month: Twinning salmonids – a new source to knowledge about conjoined twins?

Conjoined twins are frequently observed in fish hatcheries. However, they normally die during the first feeding period and rarely achieve adulthood. In this study we investigated different types of conjoined salmonid twins at the yolk sac stage, and dissected a fully developed conjoined twin specimen obtained at Institute of Marine Research, Matre Research Station. This may contribute in filling in knowledge – gaps on this subject also in higher species.
